Strive Supply chain have been exclusively retained to work with an international supplier of non-food FMCG items to the retail & home shopping sector. Our role is to source an energetic, visible & people driven manager of the highest calibre. With proven experience in running all aspects of warehouse operations using TQM / CI to drive through change, will have taken their teams on a collective journey & successfully delivered operational excellence.
Note this is a single site, non-3PL operation.
The core of the role is within the following description whilst wider information will be supplied at our interview stage if short-listed.
Key Site Stats:
Warehouse size approx. 110k sq ft. New operation, fully automated & now on a journey of site stabilisation & optimisation
Headcount of c60 on site.
An Average of 250 outbound pallets per week to retail & related clients nationally
An average of 1500 individual parcel shipments per day for home shopping & independent retail
6000 active SKU’s
Some of the automation systems include SAP, mobile bar coding, digital data collection to automate warehouse transactions, KNAPP, Linde & others.
Role Summary:
Manage the broad distribution of products from suppliers to customers encompassing
Core warehouse functions inc Goods In, stock control and movement, inventory management, Goods Out and despatch
Purchasing
Sales / Sales Forecasting
Customers
Finance / commercial
Suppliers (Group, Third Party including stock and services)
To direct, lead and motivate the logistics team. This includes managing the Warehouse Manager, Service Manager and Inbound Logistics Manager & agreeing the objectives for their teams.Development of succession planning will be key.
Site H&S across all areas to ensure it is at the highest level possible.
Managing stock levels to drive the most efficient use of space, cash and stock management. To be achieved in conjunction with purchasing and stock management teams.
Drive the most efficient functional use of the automated warehouse by fully utilising advanced warehouse management systems and developing a culture of staff engagement and continuous improvement.
Maximise the operational capacity and efficiency of the warehouse post with focus on continual improvement.
Ownership of the smooth running of all aspects of building services, the site (including security) and compliance requirements.
Review & manage the current 3PL transport mix including cost vs performance, & current SLAs.
Ensure effective flow of information between purchasing, logistics, warehousing and communication flow with sales, finance, sales forecasting and marketing teams to get the right amount of product in the right place at the right time.
Drive Supply Chain performance and relationship improvement in line with operational goals, specifically to optimise delivery processing and stock turn in the automated environment.
Lead by example, provide leadership / line management to direct and indirect reports, ensure teams are optimally stet up to deliver required results, optimise teamwork and staff performance through motivation and through training, learning and development.
To be “The Face of the Site” & lead client & supplier visits.
Instil the highest customer service standards and have a clear understanding of the company's policies and vision and how the logistics function contributes to these.
Manage the logistics budget with responsibility for financial and operational performance reporting analysis and metrics measurement.
Ideal Candidate?
Must be people driven at all levels
Will have run a complex, fast moving operation – ideally BUT non essentially an automated warehouse. Exposure to fast moving, multi-SKU, time critical, complex operations.
Highly knowledgeable on all aspects – especially planning for increased volumes, mechanical / electrical issues, all related software limits etc.
Evidence of establishing a culture of continuous improvement
Will have knowledge of cost vs performance across outsourced transport suppliers including rationalisation / SLAs reviews.
Strong on all aspects of the financials inc setting & managing budgets, making commercial decisions Likewise presenting data / reports to main board.
Proven experience of KPI analysis & improvement – this must include challenging poor performance & selling a route forwards to improve.
Must have managed or worked cross functionally with other core areas inc purchasing, sales, customer services, main Board , H&S etc
Able to combine being hands on & taking a step back when needed.
