The role:
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Assistant Transport Manager seeking a new challenge. In this role, you will manage and supervise our client’s driver workforce across Essex. This position offers a chance to expand your knowledge and experience in the industry while working closely with our operations team.
Key responsibilities:
Adhere to and promote a safe working environmentAssist with executing the daily plan for all deliveries and collections, with a keen eye on resource available at site and keep the customer updatedManage an efficient and robust driver roster, looking for ways to increase area utilisation and efficiencyMonitor driver’s hours, vehicle cleanliness and vehicle checksEnsure all related Transport documents are properly completed, whilst assisting in the companies drive to a paperless solutionResponsibility for a safe working environment, including but not limited to any safety related investigations or auditsLiaise with Driver Training providers to ensure drivers are kept up to date with all aspects of training as well as monitoring behaviour improvements where possibleAssist with investigations into non-complianceLiaise with Customers on specific region requirements around driver inductions / delivery qualifications / driver numbers / Vehicle numbersRequired to cover numerous depots so the ability to travel independentlyCross pollination of holiday cover required for other Local Transport ManagersEfficiently and accurately despatching drivers with all relevant paperworkPrepare letters, minutes, notes and other clerical support to officers as appropriate and as directed by the programme manager.Use initiative, tact and diplomacy in responding to queries, escalate issues and problems which arise to senior manager in the absence of the transport manager.
About you:
Demonstrable administration skillsA team player with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.An approachable and reliable attitudeExperience working in a busy Transport office desirableStrong communication and customer service skills, both written and verbalKnowledge of the WTD, Drivers Hours, Tachograph and Transport legislation preferableAbility to prioritize own workload but also be able to work as part of a teamIT skills e.g., Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and CRM systems.
