Transport Manager
West Yorkshire

Our client is a leading FMCG Distribution Company in the UK and we are delighted to assist them in their search for a Transport Manager at their site in West Yorkshire.


Reporting into the Operations Manager, with 90 Drivers and fleet of 110 Units, you will be expected to control all costs relating to the transport department, ensuring at all times that costs remain within budget, whilst ensuring that department works within the legal frame of transport legislation. From a busy Transport background, you will look to provide leadership and motivation to your team, which in turn facilitates achievement of KPI targets.


Duties and Responsibilities as Transport Manager:


          To manage all direct reports on a daily basis ensuring they have the required skills and knowledge, give guidance, leadership and motivation as required.

          Ensure department controls operates within the cost budgets laid out in the annual budget.

          Ensuring maximum efficiency from routing, whilst encouraging fuel cost savings.

          Ensure compliance with all transport legislation.

          Ensure timely completion of period and documentation in line with recognised time scales.

          Ensure a consistent approach to people issues with particular regard to absence, grievance and disciplinary procedures.

          Ensure the Department adheres to all the latest H&S guidelines

          Conduct annual appraisals, identifying career progression opportunities.

          To optimise productivity and maintain customer services.

          To raise fleet standards.

          To be cost effective and constantly review systems and efficiency.

          To be flexible and adapt to customer needs.

          To focus on training and development of management and driving staff.


The Ideal Candidate for this Transport Manager role:


  • Previous Transport Management experience in a busy FMCG operation
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • CPC Holder
  • Up to date with the latest Transport legislation.
  • Be a professional leader with inspirational, motivation and management skills.
  • Be proactive and visualise the strategic wider picture.
