Transport Planner – General & Freight

Our client is a leading National 3PL based in a multi-user site distributing regionally across the South and we are delighted to assist them in their search for a Transport Planner to assist in running their General Haulage & Freight operation on a Monday to Friday basis with a rotating shift of 07:00-15:00 & 10:00-18:00.

 

Reporting into the Transport Manager, this is a very hands-on role where you will be responsible for planning the day to day delivery operation of a very busy, high volume multi-drop operation and leading by example, getting stuck in with all duties and ensuring a seamless service to all customers. For the right person, this will become a Senior position with more responsibility in a short space of time.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning drivers and resources to meet minimum key performance indicators and quality standards.
  • Maximising the utilization of drivers and vehicles on a daily basis

·         Plan all relevant customer deliveries & collections ensuring delivery windows are met

·         Update all records that relate to transport i.e. deliveries & Returns and rebooking’s

·         Source local agency drivers as and when required providing an accurate brief of job required

·         Source local sub-contractors as and when required

·         Ensure the Schedule, transport plan, Load Board and any other work sheet is produced and sent out where required

·         Complete driver’s packs each day, ensure each pack has the relevant paperwork in it and the correct instructions for the drivers to complete their jobs

·         Manage the drivers ensuring start times are adhered to and the drivers run under the correct driver’s hours legislation and WTD

·         Answer all emails, telephone calls that relate to new jobs bookings with in a timely manner

·         Resolve Customer queries / complaints where applicable

·         Fully understand agreed KPI’s for the transports department and strive to stay within these margins

·         All other transport office related duties

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experienced within a fast-paced route planning environment
  • General Haulage experience using a variety of vehicles (from 7.5 to artics)
  • KPI driven
  • Up to date knowledge of the latest transport regulations (Vehicles & Drivers)
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal at all levels
