Transport Manager
Hertfordshire

Our client is a leading FMCG Distribution Company in the UK and we are delighted to assist them in their search for a Transport Manager at their site in Hertfordshire.

 

Reporting into the Operations Manager,  with 100 Drivers and fleet of 100 Units, you will be expected to control all costs relating to the transport department, ensuring at all times that costs remain within budget, whilst ensuring that department works within the legal frame of transport legislation. From a busy Transport background, you will look to provide leadership and motivation to your team, which in turn facilitates achievement of KPI targets.

 

Duties and Responsibilities as Transport Manager:

 

           To manage all direct reports on a daily basis ensuring they have the required skills and knowledge, give guidance, leadership and motivation as required.

           Ensure department controls operates within the cost budgets laid out in the annual budget.

           Ensuring maximum efficiency from routing, whilst encouraging fuel cost savings.

           Ensure compliance with legal requirements regards transportation.

           Monitor out of hours process.

           Ensure timely completion of period and documentation in line with recognised time scales.

           Ensure a consistent approach to people issues with particular regard to absence, grievance and disciplinary procedures.

           Ensure all new starters receive a thorough induction/training.

           Ensure that all team adhere to company guidelines regarding the H&SAWA.

           Conduct annual appraisals, identifying career progression opportunities.

           To unite and mould a management team.

           To optimise productivity and maintain customer services.

           To raise fleet standards.

           To manage an efficient vehicle maintenance operation for approximately 100 vehicles.

           To adhere to Ministry records, transport and health and safety legislation.

           To be aware of food standards agency and prove due diligence.

           To be cost effective and constantly review systems and efficiency.

           To be flexible and adapt to customer needs.

           To focus on training and development of management and driving staff.

           To be aware of warehouse structure and cultivate a daily interface.

           To liaise with other group divisions.

 

 

 

The Candidate:

 

  • Educated to a minimum GCSE standard.
  • Previously held a management role in similar capacity.
  • Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Hold an International CPC.
  • Have thorough knowledge of transport legislation.
  • Be a professional leader with inspirational, motivation and management skills.
  • Be proactive and visualise the strategic wider picture.
